Team Philadelphia's Day 6 Reflections

“I liked that we were able to help other people because we were able to serve them in a physical way.  I am thankful we could help them with their homes because home projects can be hard and tedious and we were able to come alongside them to make something beautiful. I learned that even when you see a messy house you want to be careful not to judge and you don’t know their situation. ” Emily

“On Thursday I was able to work at the Parker family's house. Their rooms were a big project and a little section that I had the privilege of restoring was their radiator covers. It was a small project I started, peeling the old paint off, cleaning, and repainting. I cleaned it off and it took a total of 4 coats of paint to look fresh again. This taught me resilience as I had to be patient and keep going to make it beautiful.” Elizabeth

“One meaningful memory I will have from this trip was the bonding we were able to share on the journey here. Through the serving work I learned some new construction skills that I am sure I will use in the future. The chapel times with the apologist was also very meaningful to me, because it was fun to be able to talk about theology and questions people have about faith.” Josh

“Our team was fun to work with especially when we sang and listened to songs. This helped our work and we were joyful as we worked. My favorite job from this week was painting the wall with the paintbrush and roller. I learned that if we work together we can do big things quick” Tulip

“My most meaningful memory was the smorgasbord we visited.  I really enjoyed the fellowship with students and with my teachers as this was a pivotal midpoint of our week; (and also the food was amazing!)  In particular, this gave me a new view and appreciation for my teachers not just as authority figures but as mentors and people I could be friends with. This experience also taught me that having fun with friends is just as an important part of the mission experience as working hard on sites is.” Simon
