Team Philadelphia's Day 2 Reflections

By Carter Martens, Faculty

Today 2 of our 3 teams got to go into the houses where we will be serving.  Despite the rainy day, we arose at 7:15 for a time of personal devotionals then after a quick but tasty breakfast we departed for our sites at 8:30.

“What did you do today and how did it grow you?”

Cian’s reflection:  We are remodeling a basement.  Today’s work entailed a lot of demo, tearing down walls and old furnishings.  Tomorrow we will be installing new walls.  One way that I have grown today is through learning to work alongside students I don’t normally get to see.

Beni’s reflection:  Today was a day where we did painting.  There were 2 rooms but they were full of clutter and so we had to do a lot of cleaning before we could paint.  But the painting was the part I enjoyed most because it helped me grow a new skill I don’t get to work a lot.

Simon’s reflection:  Since we didn’t get to go to our mercy ministry, we got to serve the people hosting us and help make repairs around our dorms.  Our first task was to tear out some old lights and install new ones.  The work involved a lot of precision which helped me grow because sometimes I get distracted on tangents, and it helped me learn new skills.  After that we broke into 2 separate teams and my team got to paint some of the doors in the dorm.

After a hard day of working, we got to enjoy some free time which involved games and a fun walking trip to a Wawa; followed by a large dinner and another fantastic Club and “Huddle” reflection after.  Tonight we got to hear from a local apologist who answered our questions about the defense of our faith.
