This year, one of the 3 mission opportunities for the JRHS students is a trip to Philadelphia, where we will partner with a local ministry called “The Philly Project.” This organization has been ministering to the local Philadelphia community for 15 years through a variety of different groups including ministries for mercy missions such as feeding the homeless, renovating old and deteriorating housing, various children and youth outreaches, and advertising local church events in the area. As seen in their mission statement, the goal of The Philly Project focuses on partnering with local churches in the area to spread the Gospel through serving the needs of the community, and to equip the local churches to invest in the community.
About twenty Jesse students from all grades will be attending with four faculty and one parent volunteer; (shoutout to Ben Carlson!). The plan will be to depart from the school early in the morning on Sunday April 6th and to stay in Philadelphia the whole week with an afternoon departure on that Saturday the 12th. While there, we anticipate doing a lot of physical ministry renovating different houses in northwestern Philadelphia, (near Germantown); though there is a chance we will also engage in some of the other ministries part of The Philly Project. We will be staying at an old college dormitory, which offers amazing opportunities to experience dorm life as we engage in devotionals and fellowship during our time “offsite.” We also have the opportunity to experience the local historic side of Philly and we will get to watch Noah at Sight and Sound Theatre.
