After months of anticipation and preparation, our mission trip to Philadelphia officially began yesterday! We left Candia bright and early at 8:30 a.m., full of energy and excitement for what the week ahead might hold. The long drive gave us time to connect as a team, share stories, and enjoy each other's company. A quick lunch and fellowship stop at a rest area reminded us that even simple moments like breaking bread together can be sacred and joyful.
We arrived in Philly around 4:30 p.m. and were warmly welcomed by our hosts at The Philly Project. It was inspiring to meet so many of their passionate and kind-hearted staff. We met Ray Garcia, Courtney Zellers, and Megan Lawson; people who have committed their time and talents to loving and serving this city well. Our first official activity in the city was a prayer walk through a nearby park. As we walked, we were encouraged to pray for the community, its needs, and the people we will be serving this week. It was a powerful way to begin—with our hearts and minds turned toward God and the mission He has set before us.
After the walk, we shared dinner together and then gathered for a time called “CLUB,” which included games, worship, and time in God’s Word. One of the most meaningful parts of the evening was hearing from Ray Garcia, the founder of The Philly Project. Ray shared his testimony and invited us to reflect on some big questions: “Who are we?” and “Where are we going?”
As we head into our first full day of house repairs today, we’re excited and ready. Ready to serve, ready to learn, and ready to be stretched. We’re praying that God will use our hands, our hearts, and our time here in a way that glorifies Him and blesses those we meet.
