Project Based Learning: Connecting with nature in Botany and Ornithology Classes

Writer: Jeff PhilbrickJeff Philbrick

By Susan Sicard, Director of Curriculum and Instruction

Spring invites us to connect with nature through its longer days, bird songs, and vibrant growth. To capture this, two field-based projects, Botany and Ornithology, have been developed. In these classes, students learn to identify common species in NH, sharpening their observation skills. They build confidence using keys and resources to identify plants, flowers, trees, and birds. Beyond this, they are encouraged to grow in the love of creation,  appreciate the season’s beauty, and recognize the diverse habitats that support various species.
