Anna Landry, from the Class of 2024, is leaving in early February to go on a four month mission trip in Ecuador. She will be serving at a retreat center called El Refugio up in the Andes mountains near Quito, the capital city, and is at an elevation of about 9,000 feet above sea level. The mission statement for those staying at the retreat is to get closer to God through nature, and the camp does various outdoor activities like rock climbing and hiking. They have a zip line and a high ropes course. Anna loves to rock climb and hike. Her job will be teaching little kids how to rock climb, which is perfect for her.

The retreat hosts many people, from Ecuadorian groups coming to grow in faith to American groups coming for short-term mission service. Anna will be mentoring, teaching, and serving these groups during her time there.

Anna’s love for missionary work began at Jesse Remington High School. Every year the school provides several options for students to go on missionary trips. Last year, her senior year, she went to Costa Rica for her mission trip. During that time she felt the pressure of needing to figure out what to do with her life. She wasn’t sure if she should go to college, get a job, or have a gap year between high school and college. She was hesitant because all of her friends were leaving for college. The short-term mission trip to Costa Rica she went on with Jesse Remington High School helped her to realize that she was interested in taking a gap year to pursue missions. She was very excited about this idea but needed to find the right opportunity. She prayed and searched until she wasn’t sure about taking a gap year anymore. She often questioned God, “Why God can I not find the right one?” One day after graduation, she was using Google, trying to find some more mission opportunities, and stumbled upon this organization called Global Outreach. All the pieces fell into place and her prayers were answered. As a test, she did a weeklong mission trip at El Refugio in October 2024. She found that God was truly working there and realized that God was also calling her to serve there.

She is very excited to go on this mission trip and is quite thankful for her church family’s support. Please join us in praying for Anna. To see her speech and the church praying over her please watch the video below.
