Saturday evening, the international students and their families gathered with our friends visiting from Hungary for our second Diakonos event, Thanksgiving Dinner. Headmaster Jeff Philbrick gave an engaging presentation about the beginnings of the American Thanksgiving holiday, and we shared a delicious, traditional Thanksgiving meal. Pastor Nimrod Selmeczi, JRHS Class of 2015, shared the unique historical overview of the Christian Church in Hungary, and we were delighted by a comical lesson in the longest word in Hungarian, megszentségteleníthetetlenségeskedéseitekért (44 letters!). Our visitors charmed us by singing lovely Hungarian folk songs, and we sang a Christian worship song together, beautifully intermingling Hungarian and English lyrics. Perhaps the most jovial part of the evening was the entire group attempting to learn a Hungarian folk dance. Much laughter and joy was had as we shared our cultures, traditions, and our love of God.
