Stained Glass, taught by Linda Krewson, is a project class many students are excited to take. In this class, students learn the fundamental skills needed to create a wonderful piece of stained glass art they can put on a window or shelf for decoration. Beginner students choose from patterns pre-approved by Mrs. Krewson, so they can learn the required skills easily. Advanced students, who have taken one or more years of the class, can select from online patterns or even design their own. Once approved, students begin working on their glass project!
This class teaches students how to plan out a project before beginning, as they have to choose colors and cut out all the individual pieces before starting to assemble. Students also learn patience, as glass is extremely fragile and they are apt to break a few key pieces while cutting.
In the end, they are able to give praise to God for the light He provides as it shines through the project.
Mackenzie Chapman, a first year Stained Glass student, shared her favorite part of the class: “Being able to pursue a new form of art that I’ve never tried before. It’s teaching me patience, and I’m becoming better at problem solving.” She has finished her first project of the quarter and is beginning her second piece, now that she knows the basics about stained glass.
